Eesti Laul is a festival of diversity, maybe the only selection in Europe which will prefer to select an original contribution to a calculated one. And they prove it again this year!

Here is Evestus, who perfectly illustrates this!

How would you define yourself in one word?
Industrialist

How would you describe your state of mind when you're on stage?
I feel like I have only until the end of the set to live. After the show ends, I die. So I guess the state of mind would be ´alive´. The way our world is set – everybody has to pretend all the time – some more, some less, but as an artist – you always do. On the stage you don't have to. At least I don't. That's where I'm truly myself. Through my songs I speak my mind and I don't have to explain myself or worry about offending anyone.

How would you quickly tell your life story?
A weird kid from a small town who didn't fit in and got a lot of shit for that at school escaped the small town when he was 15 to study music in the capital Tallinn, lived alone there in squats and couches for three drug-soaked years looking for likeminded people until he met a girl who was as crazy as him and together they started creating amazing things among which is the industrial rock band Evestus.

How does one make you angry?
I am a very private person so I get angry when people come over or even call me unannounced. I know that sounds retarded, but I really get pissed off when someone unexpectedly calls me.. I think I need some therapy for these anxieties but until then I blame other people!

How does one make you happy?
I'm really happy to hear about people listening and enjoying my music. I know it's challenging and I also know you have to be pretty insane to understand it so anyone who get's it means there is one more person like me in this world and I'm not as alone as I thought! A good piece of mille-feuille also makes me happy because it's really hard to find!

How would you define your taste in music?
I am a big fan of industrial music – from 70's to today – it's an amazing world with incredible characters and unbelievable musical range.. but I also listen to 90's hip-hop and nu-metal. 90's music is really dark – even pop and dance music! And I always keep one ear on what's currently happening in hopes of discovering something new and inspiring!

If there was just 1 artist you could listen to for the rest of your life, who would it be?
This is a really hard one but I think it would be Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) – he has enough albums that sound completely different while being relatable emotionally.

How would you describe Welcome to my world, your song for the contest?
Looking at the world today, to me it seems that we are closer than ever to annihilating ourselves. And just like I want to go back to Japan before the earthquakes or God knows what destroys them - anyone interested in visiting our world should move their plans closer, because there might not be much time left haha. But this is also a metaphor to a much more personal story but that's for everyone to either understand or not.

How did you make the decision of entering Eesti Laul this year?
I've always loved and followed the competition - every year it unveils a few new artists and talents that I've never heard of before. And I just had the right song at the right time. It was all a bit surreal - I just felt like this is what I have to do. And I'm very happy to be a part of this thing.

How would you make us want to come to Estonia?
It's safe, clean and futuristic here, the women are beautiful and the nature is amazing. And recent studies show that we also have some of the best nightclubs Europe has to offer.

How do you picture Eurovision in 10 years?
I don't think it will change much - it will always have a touch of politics, a touch of great art and a whole lot of fun! I hope it'll be made a national holiday throughout Europe!

How are you going to win Eurovision 2018?
I will travel country to country bribing all the right people into giving Estonia their vote. What do I use as bribe? I'll tell them that if we win then I promise I will never take part in the competition again HAHA!

Evestus, thank you so much for this interview! He will be performing in the second semi-final this Saturday!
