The first country to choose this week will be Belarus on Friday! There are only 10 contestants left to fight for the right to represent the country in Lisbon!
And among them, Lexy Weaver!
How would you define yourself in one word?
How would you describe your state of mind when you're on stage?
I have this awesome mixed feeling of excitement and confidence. It's like you are ready to share all your energy with the hall, you link with the audience and you feel alive.
How would you quickly tell the story of your life?
I was born in Minsk in 2000 on the 31th of July. Began my music career at the age of 6, when I entered a music school. Started writing songs at 9. I sing pop, soul and blues. I am the winner of a great amount of international competitions; semi-finalist of The Voice of Baltia; finalist of National Selection of ESC 2017 and ESC 2018 in Belarus. Released my first EP album "Signs", where all of the songs are written by myself, in 2017. I have a specialization of Music Production in Berklee College of Music, which I got after studying there online. I'm not only a singer, I am a composer ( I write both music and lyrics).
How does one make you angry?
It's really difficult to make me angry. But there are some points which are really annoying and make me angry every time I see or hear about it: violence, racism, humiliation, infringement of human rights.
How does one make you happy?
Music makes me absolutely happy. My family makes me happy. Travelling makes me happy. There are a lot of things in this world that can make me happy, because the whole fact we live is a true happiness.
How would you define your taste in music?
I like pop music (Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Dua Lipa, Adele...) and a little bit of blues (Norah Jones)
If there was just 1 artist you could listen to for the rest of your life, who would it be?
It is the most difficult question ever! Let it be The Weeknd today, because for me he's one of the best male singers in the world right now.
How would you describe Ain't you, your song for the contest?
I guess, every person once asked themselves: "Does the person near me make me happy?" It can be not only your beloved one. It can be a friend or just someone you trust. Is he or she my soulmate? Ain't you
is about letting go, about choosing freedom and happiness. This song will be close to everybody, because the problem is really current.
How did you make the decision of entering the Eurofest this year?
I released my first EP album this year, received some American Awards (such as Global Music Awards and Akademia Music Awards), became more experienced and more hardworking. So I wanted to try to participate again to see if I really made a progress. This year I feel like I really became a little bit better as a musician, especially as a composer. It was a kinda spontaneous decision to enter Eurovision this year, but spontaneous decisions are the best! As a result, I'll have an opportunity to share my music with a great amount of people once more.
How would you make us want to come to Belarus?
Belarus is the country of great Slavic nation. We're extremely hospitable and tolerant. Our capital, Minsk, is a clean city with friendly people. We're always glad to see tourists in Belarus. I sincerely invite you to visit Belarus! If you come here, you'll find a lot of places of historical heritage. Some of our castles and palaces are in the Unesco list of world heritage. Belarus is worth visiting.
How do you picture Eurovision in 10 years?
I guess there will be a lot of participants performing with pop, r&b, tropical house, electro, techno music. These styles are getting popular, so, no surprise if there will be plenty of songs of those genres at Eurovision.
How are you going to win Eurovision 2018?
I'm gonna be sincere and will perform whole-heartedly. It's always something that make people believe you. And being open for everyone on the stage is my secret weapon.
Lexy, thank you very much for this interview! She will be singing Ain't you on stage this Friday!
