Aden Ray might be one of the contestants in this year's Eesti Laul, starting Saturday, but he moved around a lot! And his favourite singer in French! Here is his interview.

How would you define yourself in one word?
Love

How would you describe your state of mind when you're on stage?
I love when it’s my concert, when people are coming to see and to hear me and my music. But when it’s a concert with a lots of other artists, I’m extremely nervous, I go through hell actually. But somehow, when I’m already performing on stage and everything is going right, I’m feeling much better. For me the most important is people’s positive feedback, because I’m a very shy person and for me it is very important to feel a good, relaxed atmosphere around me.

How would you quickly tell your life story?
Well, that’s very interesting and a long story. Some of it I told already in my songs, on my 2 albums - 33 Names, The Revolution Of Me, and some of my thoughts, that are more personal I put into instrumental music, that I’m composing, my soundtracks - Atomus, Triple A, Flasia. A lot more to tell though :)
New stories are on the way on my new album.

How does one make you angry?
Cruelty to animals makes me feel angry.

How does one make you happy?
I'm happy when I’m seeing people loving me back for the love I’m sharing with them.

How would you define your taste in music?
Strange taste. I like so different kinds of music, that I cannot put it into one. I don’t like any particular genre, I like particular tracks - from deep house to rap, from Britney Spears to The Haxan Cloak.

If there was just 1 artist you could listen to for the rest of your life, who would it be?
It would definitely be Mylene Farmer! And I’ll tell you why. First, I started to listen to her music when I was 7 I think, my parents were big fans of her. I know all of her albums, her music inspired me so much, I went through love and pain listening to her music. I remember when I was like 16 I loved to walk in cemeteries and listen to her first 2 albums, her tracks L’horloge, Au bout de la nuit and so on. Her first 2 albums are so dark. I just loved and still love them so much. So why her, because I like all of her music from the very beginning until now. I’ve been to one of her concerts N°5 on Tour. For me it’s the best concert I’ve attended so far. Although my favourite albums of hers are Innamoramento and Avant que l'ombre… Some of the greatest songs - Puisque, L'Histoire d'une fée, c'est…, Avant que l'ombre… and Pas le temps de vivre. I’m a really big fan. I hope that I will have a chance to meet her one day and to work with her on new music. She inspired me a lot. I even composed a song, that is dedicated to her. It’s in French by the way. I heard this song in my dream and then when I woke up I called my friend to help me with lyrics in French and I wrote this song. I dedicated this song to Mylene Farmer.

How would you describe Everybody's dressed, your song for the contest?
Everybody's dressed was written and composed by me. This song is about us people, wearing masks in our lives. It’s like we are always wearing good clothes, making our hair done and so on, trying to look better and nicer. But the main thing is that in the end of the day, when I meet people, I don’t see their «faces» (like in the song I’m singing), like who they really are, how funny they can be, how easy going they can be :))
And only when love comes to our hearts, that is the time when we can become bright, like a sunshine, real and natural, like who we really are. Just we don’t have to be scared of being who we are. So that masks, those fake feelings are making us sad and sometimes stressful. So, the last verse is about that we must fight for not afraid to be who we are. So, in the end we will all feel blessed and loved and happy.

How did you make the decision of entering Eesti Laul this year?
First, I wanna say, that I never liked competitions, although I was in kid’s vocal studio where we were always attending different competitions all around the world like WCOPA in Los Angeles and so on. I think, that competitions are not for music, this is not what creators should do. How can we compare music? How can we compare an art?! How can we choose what is better? No, every song, every artist is unique in it’s own way - this is how it is. Someone likes rock, someone r'n'b, someone pop music, but it doesn’t mean that something in particular is better. I was in New York and then spent a few years in the Philippines making music, performing there and doing some TV and radio appearances. I even composed a song named The Philippines, which will be out early next year. And then a few months ago I went to Europe and heard, that Eesti Laul is coming - I recorded a great song, it’s very personal song for me, it’s about me and this song means a lot for me. I wanted to share to the world this song, I wanted people to feel what I felt during my life. I always felt that a lot of us are scared or shy being who we are, that’s why we are always wearing masks, we are hiding ourselves, but when we are real, true to us, then we are so beautiful. That’s why I decided that I needed to deliver this song to millions and Eesti Laul and Eurovision is a great way to do so. That’s why I decided to take part of it.

How would you make us want to come to Estonia?
I’m inviting you to have a dinner with me here :)))
And I’ll take you to a road trip around the country with a car. That would be fun!

How do you picture Eurovision in 10 years?
Would be cool if it will become Worldvision, so all the countries will participate. And at least one federal TV channel in each country will be broadcasting it. Actually they already took Australia as far as I know, so it’s on the way to my thought.

How are you going to win Eurovision 2018?
How?! - For me - love wins, so I already won.

Aden, thank you very much for this interview! We wish you the best of luck for the first performance of Everybody's dressed this Saturday!
