The Romanian artist you are going to get introduced to today is not really Romanian. He´s actually French and has an interesting story to share! Meet Tom Hartis!

How would you define yourself in one word?
Passionate.

How would you describe your state of mind when you're on stage?
Nothing matters more that to pass emotions through my passion, and to share that moment with the audience.

How would you quickly tell your life story?
I met a lot of people, I tried a lot of ways, tried a lot of things I liked, my goal is really to reach as much fulfillment as possible, thanks to meeting people and sharing moments. Music has always been there in my existence.

How does one make you angry?
It is of vital importance to me that people respect each other. We have too much to share to be bickering all the time, which is why lack of tolerance can annoy me.

How does one make you happy?
By getting to know me. I am a sociable and caring person, and I appreciate when people are the same with me :) or else by surrounding myself with my public, my family or my friends.

How would you define your taste in music?
Eclectic. I don't have any limits besides the subjective quality I assess the music I am listening to. From Tryo to System of a Down through Bob Marley, Richard Cocciante, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tenacious D, Naaman, Brahms, Shaggy, Bigflo et Oli, Eminem, Telemann, Led Zeppelin, Orelsan... There is not enough space to name all of those I listen to daily and who inspire me, but one thing is certain, I do not spend a day in my life without one of them !

If there was just 1 artist you could listen to for the rest of your life, who would it be?
Tryo, for the quality of the lyrics and the obvious passion they transmit through their work.

How would you describe Teardrop Rain, your song for the contest?
It is an energetic song, about the chances that come when we accept that life is made of implacable hardship and when we get over the sorrow of the past. After a conscious decision, by accepting it, the rain which is here a metaphor for pain, becomes a mean used to heal our suffering. Even if the song references lost love, the message is universal: we have to recognize what went wrong, accept that we cannot change it and make sure we learn from it, that we live life to a better extent after that.
To conclude, a positive song, very nice to sing, even though it is complex.

How did you make the decision of entering Selectia Nationala this year?
My dream is to perform on stage, and to make a living of it. I have always been a Eurovision fan, and I love what this contest means to Europe. Through chance, I met Marius Cobianu on a Facebook page. He was looking for an artist to present one of the songs he composed at Eurovision. We talked on Skype, and I was immediately attracted to the project. We organized everything, and here I am!

How would you make us want to come to Romania?
I would tell you about my visits there, it is a country with beautiful landscapes and a very interesting history. What ties me to Romania is the fact that I have some of my origins there. My parents met there, after Ceaucescu's death. They were part of a group of musicians who was reopening theaters and concert halls and they had me right after! I can therefore only advise you to go there, because without Romania and its history, I wouldn't be here today !

How do you picture Eurovision in 10 years?
Faithful to itself, open to diverse cultures and always with the same values that unite peoples through music.

How are you going to win Eurovision 2018?
With my talent! x)
I really do not know, I will be faithful to myself and give the best, no matter what!

Tom, thank you very much for this interview that widened the cosmpolite character of the Romanian selection! You will be able to see him on Sunday during the first of the five semi-finals of the Romanian Selectia Nationala!
