Last Saturday, Destination Eurovision's first semi final made long-awaited wishes come true: finally a real national final on French television.
After this first evening full of emotions, it is now time to get ready for the second semi-final, made of 9 new artists who will be waiting for you on Saturday.
Today, let's discover Madame Monsieur!
How would you define yourself in one word?
How would you describe your state of mind when you're on stage?
Being on stage is absolute happiness. We always try to bring the people who came to listen to us on a trip, to get them to come along the stories we are telling them.
How would you quickly tell your life story?
The love of music brought us together. We wrote our first song the day after we first met ! We have always wanted to move forward together. For now, it is working for us.
How does one make you angry?
Vain and pretentious people tend to get on our nerves quickly. Modesty is an essential quality when you want to make music.
How does one make you happy?
By locking us up in a recording studio! Nothing makes us happier than writing songs.
How would you define your taste in music?
Our taste varies a lot, we listen to a lot of different things. Emilie loves French chanson and jazz, Jean-Karl is originally more of a rock guy. What brings us together is the rap and pop we both listen to!
If there was just 1 artist you could listen to for the rest of your life, who would it be?
Impossible! Who could bear eating the same dish their whole life? Diversity is what is interesting.
How would you describe Mercy, your song for Destination Eurovision?
It is a positive song, that tells the true story of a little girl who was born on a rescue boat in the Mediterranean. A hopeful song that gives the news and the heroes you see in them a name.
How did you make the decision of entering Destination Eurovision this year?
We wrote our song the day Mercy was born, 21 March 2017 (same day as the beginning of spring!). 9 months later, the Eurovision selection committee asked us if we had a song to submit to them. It was for us the ideal opportunity to shed some light on Mercy's story. A European contest to bring up migration and the dream of a better life, we couldn't have imagined better !
How would you make non-French fans want to come and visit France?
There are a thousand landscapes in France ! There is so much diversity here that even French people themselves do not know everything. Travelling is always a discovery in France... and it often come through food :). Okay, we'll admit it, we love to eat.
How do you picture Eurovision in 10 years?
Maybe with more modernity, maybe with other non-European countries, like the United States maybe ! And with contestants that have an urban music background.
How are you going to win Eurovision 2018?
Simply by trying to reach the audience with little Mercy's story.... and being ourselves!!! :)
Madame, Monsieur, Émilie, Jean-Karl, thank you very much for this interview! I am sure many of you are very impatient to discover the duo's Mercy, but you will have to wait a few days more, until Saturday!
