You could not miss it: over the last week, day after day, France 2 released the names of the 18 hopefuls that will be part of the French selection for the 2018 Eurovision, Destination Eurovision.

Now that the list has been completed, and while waiting for the first semi-final on Saturday, we are going to start to get to know the artists who will try to win the right to represent France in Lisbon in May a little better.

And to start with, here are some pieces of information on the lovely June the Girl, who seems to have conquered the international fans already!

How would you define yourself in one word?

How would you describe your state of mind when you're on stage?
I feel free, confident, as if I was in control for once. I am in my little bubble and I feel light, everything seems to be so easy.

How would you quickly tell your life story?
Music is my most beautiful love story. Since a very young age, I found shelter in it. I listen to music 24/7 with my headphones on, and music allows me to feel safe, to laugh, sometimes to put things into perspective or to move on. When I was 14, I discovered Love Story by Taylor Swift, which made me want to play guitar and write my own music and songs. I started when I was 18 because I didn't feel like I had seen enough before to start speaking about it.

How does one make you angry?
Injustice, betrayal and dishonesty make me fly off the handle. I have a hard time giving my trust, so if I give it to you and you betray it, you're dead to me (laughs)

How does one make you happy?
Love, my greatest weakness, or maybe a strength as well. It's anyway what puts my head in the clouds the most, besides music obviously ;)

How would you define your taste in music?
I grew up listening to pop, almost exclusively, and most of all American pop singers, such as Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, The Cranberries, Hilary Duff, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift.

If there was just 1 artist you could listen to for the rest of your life, who would it be?
Without any doubt: Taylor Swift. I have her latest album Reputation on repeat for over two months already!

How would you describe Same, your song for Destination Eurovision?
Same is an electro-pop-rock song mixing French and English, with a little urban sound to it. I wrote and composed it a year and a half ago in Auvergne for my album on which I am still working. It was originally entirely in English. Then Eurovision came along so I worked with François Welgryn to create French lyrics.
Same is a song about those relationships that do not necessarily make us happy, but we stay in them because they bring us stability, because maybe we are just afraid of being alone. Some relationships make us feel bad about ourselves, or we can even lose our core identity because of them. It is also a song about simply getting tired of a love story and wanting some freedom.

How did you make the decision of entering the Destination Eurovision this year?
It's actually my manager who came up with the idea and I was willing to try but I didn't really believe in it because I knew that there would be a lot of submissions and some artists that are a little more renowned were also in the race. But well, you always have to try your luck!

How would you make non-French fans want to come and visit France?
I was lucky enough to travel a lot and move around with my family when I was younger. I could see different places and cultures and I realised that I loved my country a lot! Especially its food haha! I like all its different regions with their specialties. France is a beautiful country, you just have to stroll around in Paris, to just lift your head a little in the streets to see what's around. Or just walk along Marseille's harbour and gaze at the fishermen selling their produce.

How do you picture Eurovision in 10 years?
I feel like Eurovision gets bigger and bigger year after year, and more and more people feel included in it. Maybe in 10 years time every country will participate and it will turn into a worldwide competition.

How are you going to win Eurovision 2018?
Simply by giving my all when I perform. I invested myself in the creation of this song, but also in the staging and everything that belongs to it. I hope that my universe will come across and that I will manage to carry the viewers with me. I put all my heart and my energy in it.

June, thank you very much for this interview and for your kindness. June will be part of the second semi-final of Destination Eurovision, which means she will appear on TV on the 20th of January, which is also the day we will discover the song Same.
